The
Police Athletic League of Sarasota County, Inc., more commonly
referred to as "Sarasota PAL", or just "PAL", is a nonprofit
organization that provides quality athletic, academic, and after
school activities to the youth of Sarasota County.
Sarasota PAL was initially formed in 1988 under the the
direction of Sheriff Geoff Monge and was known as the Youth
Athletic League. Soon thereafter, Sarasota PAL became
incorporated and joined the Florida Police Athletic league and
the National Association of Police Athletic Leagues.
Sarasota PAL is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of
concerned community and business leaders, and local law
enforcement officers. The Sarasota County Sheriff acts as the
Executive Director of the Board.
It is the mission of the Sarasota PAL to provide a safe
environment for kids of Sarasota County to participate, learn,
and achieve while developing positive relationships between kids
and law enforcement. Today's law enforcement officers
recognize their dual responsibility to prevent crime and to
enforce the law. But even the most dedicated officer cannot
overcome the negative psychological impact that may be caused by
such things as peer pressure, a broken home, poverty, prejudice,
boredom, apathy, passing of a loved one, or loneliness.
Activities sponsored by PAL create a positive environment where
kids can learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and
commitment.
Mutual trust and respect can be built between the kids of today
and Law Enforcement Officers with the end result being a kid who
will learn self respect and self worth, and will be able to
function in tomorrow's society.
PAL is funded by donations, grants, and fund raising events
throughout the year. If you are interested in making a donation,
